Bicycle Therapy

April 2nd, 2010

First: an amazing video showing a man with Parkinsons in such advanced stages that he cannot walk. He is able, however, to ride a bike. I must admit I got a little emo when I watched it.

Second: Something awful is happening to Krankenberry. Ever since the Double Deluge of Doom, she seems to be coming apart at the nuts-n-bolts. First, her shifter cable gets mangled. A day after I have a new one installed, the bolt on the front fender flies off mid-commute, leaving me with a droopy, rattling catastrophe that I have to rig up with electrical tape for the rest of the ride. The next day, my rear fender’s bolt pops right through the thin aluminum of the fender, leaving a gaping hole. As soon as I fix THAT, my goddam rear hub goes totally KABLOOEY and now I have one speed – Hamster Wheel.

WTF is going on here, is Mercury in retrograde or something?

I’m going to deliver it to Ace tonight and hopefully they can fix it up quick – if not, Shimano is going to have one angry vengeful customer to deal with – this hub is only about 6 months old, and though it was used daily it wasn’t used all that HARD.  We shall see – I will report on the outcome this afternoon.
